Learn about academic writing: style, language, and structure

What is academic writing, really?

Especially for new students, academic writing can seem obscure, challenging, and almost mysterious. We can’t promise that you’ll master academic writing after this introductory course, but we will help you understand more about what it involves. We’ll give you tips on how to structure an academic text, create coherence, and use language precisely to convey your content clearly. We’ll also show you where to find more information and how to familiarize yourself with the writing traditions in your field of study.

Topics covered:

  • What characterizes academic writing
  • Language and style in academic texts
  • Structuring the text into paragraphs and chapters
  • Effective communication
  • Useful resources for further learning

This course will help you understand what academic writing is, and what it isn’t, so that you can feel more confident about how to develop your own writing skills further.
