PhD-supervisor seminar
The seminar will focus on the role of the supervisor by examining the expectations and responsibilities involved in supervising PhD candidates at NTNU. Based on this, you will be introduced to various approaches to how you can effectively fulfill this role.
The seminar will address various topics relevant to all supervisors, regardless of faculty or department affiliation. Participants are expected to actively engage in group discussions and share reflections and experiences.
As part of the PhD supervisor training, an e-learning course has been developed to provide insight into doctoral education at NTNU and basic knowledge about the supervisory role. You will be asked to complete this course prior to the seminar.

TARGET GROUP
PhD-supervisors from all faculties at NTNU. All participants should be main or co-supervisor for at least one current or upcoming PhD candidate
EXPECTED OUTCOME
By the end of the course, you will:
- Have increased awareness of the requirements and expectations placed on you as a PhD supervisor at NTNU.
- Have increased knowledge of how to be a good and effective supervisor, and how to further develop in the role.
- Have the competence to handle research ethics issues and dilemmas that may arise in the supervisory relationship.
- Be equipped to support PhD candidates in matters such as internationalization, career development, inclusion in the research community, and psychosocial topics.
Registration: Registration is binding and commits attendance for both days.
Format: Physical seminar in Trondheim, no digital participation.
Language: The course will be held in English.
Availability: 45 spots available (first come, first served). You will be notified if you move up from the waiting list.
Participants will receive a course certificate for attending both seminar days.
